Step-by-step instructions: Snowmen and Christmas trees made from terracotta pots
Terracotta pots required:
Snowman: body Ø 11 cm, cap Ø 9 cm
Christmas tree: Ø 13 cm, Ø 11 cm, Ø 9 cm
Painting the terracotta pots
Paint the terracotta pots with craft paints in the colours of your choice.
Preparations: Preparation
Print out the snowman and Christmas tree templates. Place the graphite paper on the terracotta pots and transfer the template motifs. Trace the lines with a white marker to create a clear outline.
Making a snowman
Prepare the polystyrene tube: Cut off the end of the polystyrene tube with a cutter knife. Punch out the circles: Use a standard hole punch to punch several circles out of the foam rubber sheet. Design the face: Glue the wobbly eyes, the carrot and the foam rubber circles to the terracotta pot using handicraft glue. These elements form the typical snow face. Add the hat: Once the handicraft glue has dried, glue the smaller terracotta pot (Ø 9 cm) onto the head (Ø 11 cm) as a hat using assembly glue. Allow everything to dry well before continuing.
Making a Christmas tree
Glue the pots: Glue the three terracotta pots (Ø 13 cm, Ø 11 cm and Ø 9 cm) together with assembly glue to create the shape of a Christmas tree. Decoration: Decorate the Christmas tree with scatter decorations. Use handicraft glue to stick the scatter decorations to the pots.
Apply clear varnish:
If you plan to place the painted terracotta pots outside, apply a weatherproof clear varnish. This will protect the colours from the weather and prolong the life of your artwork.
