Start by printing out the templates for the dragon lantern and cutting them out carefully. Transfer the body of the dragon (template A) twice onto craft cardboard sheet and cut it out.
Tip: If you cut out the inner part with a cutter knife, you can also design this as an additional small dragon, for example as a window picture.
Place the cut-out dragon bodies on a piece of straw silk and trace the contours with a pencil. Cut out the straw silk along the drawn lines and stick it to the dragon's body using handicraft glue. Continue with the face details (templates B, C, D, E). Transfer these to craft cardboard sheets, cut them out and outline them with a permanent marker. Glue the face elements to the dragon using handicraft glue and draw the mouth and eyebrows directly onto the straw silk. You also need to transfer the intermediate piece (template F) twice onto craft cardboard sheet and cut it out.
Glue both parts together and fold the dotted lines with a folding tool by pressing the laces upwards. Fold the intermediate piece in the centre and punch holes in the middle and at the ends for the later loop. Glue the laces to the back of the kite body with handicraft glue and fold in the side parts.
For the bows, cut pieces of crepe paper approx. 6 cm long and tie them together in the centre with warp yarn. Glue four or eight bows onto the kite. You can shorten the wire as you wish. Plug one end into the previously punched hole at the bottom of the kite and bend the end with round nose pliers to prevent the wire from slipping out. Shape the wire as desired and tie as many loops as you like to it with warp yarn. Bend the wire of the chain of lights and place it in the kite.
The chain of lights has 3 switch-on options: press once for the timer function, twice for on and three times for off. In the timer function, the chain of lights lights up for 6 hours and then switches off. It switches on again after 18 hours. Finally, pull the lantern bracket through the holes at the lower end of the intermediate piece and bend the ends with round nose pliers. Hang up the lantern rod.
