Instructions No. 2351
Difficulty: Advanced
Working time: 6 Hours
Handle: For the handle, connect the metal rings with the square knot (macramé). You can find instructions with all the common macramé knots under Ideas & Instructions no.: 2154. For this, use the raffia, but be careful not to pull it too tightly as it could tear.
1. First, cut the 3 mm cane into different sizes. You should determine the distance between the rings beforehand. This will later be the size of the newspaper rack.
2. The next step is to bend the canes straight. To do this, soak the sticks in lukewarm water. The sticks can remain in the water during the whole working time.
3. Then they can be straightened and dried. A hair dryer is ideal for this. The sticks are then fixed to the metal rings with a little hot glue.
The sticks lie crosswise between the two metal rings. To make it look more decorative, but also to prevent the stakes from falling off, wrap the metal rings and the stakes with raffia.
When you have reached the end, do the same in the other direction. Now repeat this on the other side as well.
4. Now cut the 1.5 mm peddigree cane to approx. 80 cm. Put it in lukewarm water to soak it.
5. First weave the cane into the stakes. To do this, first go under the cane and then over the stakes. Moisten the cane every now and then so that it does not break.
6. Finally, wrap the ends with raffia, as you did with the stakes. Now you can shorten the ends that are too long and, if necessary, finish them with the cane varnish.
